Papal sympathy for Guatemala earthquake victims

Pope Benedict XVI has sent a message of condolence to the victims of an earthquake in Guatemala that caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries.
In a telegram to Bishop Rodolfo Valenzuela Nunez of Vera Paz, president of the Guatemalan bishops' conference, the Pope promised his "fervent prayers for the eternal repose of the victims" and for the comfort of all those affected. He encouraged relief efforts to bring aid to the thousands of people suffering because of the earthquake damage.
