Leftists can be pro-life too, columnist argues
CWN - October 22, 2012
As political director for the Huffington Post in Great Britain, and a regular contributor to Al Jazeera, Mehdi Hasan is not ordinarily associated with conservative causes. In fact he embraces left-wing political causes. But Hasan disagrees with most of his political allies on the issue of abortion.
“Yes, a woman has a right to choose what to do with her body,” Hasan writes; “but a baby isn't part of her body.” He observes that the scientific evidence leaves no doubt about the baby’s humanity, and the brutality of abortion should repel anyone concerned about human rights.
Hasan is Muslim, and Muslims generally oppose abortion. But that is not the determining factor for him. “To be honest, I would be opposed to abortion even if I were to lose my faith.”
