Australian religious leaders issue joint statement against redefinition of marriage
CWN - September 10, 2012
Cardinal George Pell of Sydney, Australia, heads a large group of religious leaders who have joined in a statement urging legislators not to change the definition of marriage.
“Marriage is the lifelong commitment and faithful union of one man and one woman,” said the statement, signed by over 250 religious leaders. “As such, marriage is the natural basis of the family because it secures the relationship between biological parents and their children.”
The statement was made public as the country’s lawmakers take up debate on several proposals that would alter the Marriage Act to accommodate same-sex couples.
