Australian diocese readies $15 million abuse payout
Catholic World News - August 17, 2012
The Australian Diocese of Maitland-Newscastle is nearing agreement with sex-abuse victims for a blanket settlement that would provide $15 million in compensation for about 100 victims.
The compensation payment would be divided among victims of more than 10 alleged molesters, involving incidents that reportedly stretch back to the 1960s. The $15 million figure is the largest reported to date in Australia.
