Zambia: priests protest deportation of Rwandan cleric
CWN - August 13, 2012
A group of 130 diocesan priests in Zambia have protested their government’s decision to expel a Rwandan priest.
Father Viateur Banyangandora was deported after he delivered a sermon complaining that the low cotton prices set by the government were threatening the ability of farmers to survive. Led by Bishop George Cosmas Zumaire Lungu of Chipata, the Zambian priests have announced that they are “surprised and not satisfied” by the government’s explanation of the deportation order. The government is reportedly reconsidering the decision to expel Father Banyangandora.
