Vietnamese activist’s mother in self-immolation

The distraught mother of an imprisoned Vietnamese Christian activist set herself on fire in front of government offices in Bac Lieu.
The shocking death of Dang Thi Kim Lieng called attention to the plight of her daughter, Maria Te Phong Tan, who faces a possible prison term of 20 years for allegedly promoting contempt for the government. Friends say that the charges are spurious.
