Bulgarian, Macedonian leaders met with Pontiff
CWN - May 24, 2012
Pope Benedict XVI met on May 24 with President Rosen Plevneliev of Bulgaria and Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski of Macedonia. The two political leaders were making a traditional visit to Rome for the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius.
Plevneliev, the Bulgarian president, presented the Holy Father with one of the more unusual gifts to appear at such diplomatic encounters: an elaborately designed “Easter egg” encrusted with jewels, standing more than 6 feet high and weighing over 400 pounds.
