Noted Legionary priest reveals he fathered a child

One of the best-known members of the Legion of Christ has admitted that he fathered a child.
Father Thomas Williams, who has gained international prominence as a teacher, author, and television commentator, said that he was “deeply sorry for this grave transgression,” which had occurred some years ago. He did not give further details about the child or about the relationship. In a public statement he said that he would be taking a year away from public ministry.
The confession from Father Williams comes just a few days after the Legion of Christ disclosed that 7 priests of the order are now being investigated by the Vatican on sex-abuse charges. Father Williams was not included on that list since his relationship involved an adult woman and was apparently consensual.
