Vatican approves blessing for child in womb

March 27, 2012

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has granted a request by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to approve a Rite for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb.

The blessing, which was written at the suggestion of Archbishop Joseph Kurtz and submitted to the Congregation for approval in 2008, may be conferred during Mass or outside of Mass.

Well done to Archbishop Kurtz! This pastoral and sacramental recognition of human life, by conferring a blessing on the unborn, is an inspired counter to those who have lost their sense of humanity. It will also be a great comfort to those bearing a child.

Does anyone know if the blessing can be licitly conferred in Mexico? I know someone who needs it.
