UN reports cites Israel human-rights abuses in Gaza

A UN rapporteur has accused Israel of "crimes against humanity" in its blockade of the Gaza Strip, and called for action by the International Criminal Court to investigate. The UN's Human Rights council has listed 99 steps that Israel should take to improve conditions for civilians in Gaza. About 1.5 million people live in the region, which has suffered economic devastation since Israel closed off the border. The Gaza Strip is controlled by Hamas, and Israeli officials say that strict controls are required to cut down on terrorist attacks. The UN report criticizing Israeli policies was written by Richard Falk, a retired Princeton professor with a history of support for leftist causes.
