Milwaukee archdiocese faces 550 abuse claims in bankruptcy proceeding
CWN - February 03, 2012
More than 550 people have filed claims for compensation because of sexual abuse by clerics of the Milwaukee archdiocese.
The claims were filed just before a deadline imposed by bankruptcy-court proceedings. The Milwaukee archdiocese filed for bankruptcy protection last year, citing the likely costs of sex-abuse settlements.
The archdiocese has asked the court to dismiss up to 95% of the claims, saying that they are excluded by the statue of limitations or because the alleged molesters were not priests.
