Senator Rubio offers bill to roll back Obama mandate

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida has introduced legislation that would rescind the Obama administration's mandate for contraceptive coverage in all health-care plans.

Senator Rubio's proposal, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2012, is one of several possible strategic responses to the Obama administration's mandate. Some political analysts argue that the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, already pending in Congress, would offer a satisfactory outcome. Others suggest that the Obama mandate could not survive a court challenge because it violates existing laws and constitutional protections.
