Hindu mob attacks Jesuit school in Karnataka
CWN - January 31, 2012
Hindu zealots attacked a Catholic school in Karnataka, India, on January 27.
An angry Hindu mob burst into classrooms at St. Joseph College, disrupting schoolwork, and beat students. The attack was apparently motivated by outrage because the school had not raised a flag to celebrate a national holiday.
Police stood by as the mob rampaged through the school. Later, the police took the school’s rector into custody for several hours of interrogation.
Karnataka has been the scene of repeated assaults against the Christian minority. Church leaders have frequently complained that local officials have done little or nothing to stop the violence.
