Russian Orthodox Church backs crackdown on illegal immigration
CWN - January 25, 2012
A spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church has voiced his support for a call by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for a crackdown on illegal immigration.
Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, the public-affairs spokesman for the Moscow patriarchate, said that “illegal immigration must be curbed with more stringent rules.” His statement came in response to statements by Putin, who is now a candidate for the Russian presidency. The influence of the Moscow patriarchate could play an important role in the presidential contest.
