Pope Benedict to meet Fidel Castro during March visit?

January 16, 2012

Pope Benedict XVI could plan a personal meeting with the ailing Fidel Castro during his visit to Cuba in March, Vatican Insider reports.

Although a face-to-face meeting is not listed on the official schedule for the papal visit, “it is a bit more than just a hypothesis,” Vatican Insider claims. The meeting is reportedly being considered for the afternoon of March 27, during the Pope’s 2nd day in Cuba. Plans are reportedly being made subject to last-minute changes because of Castro's deteriorating health, but the Cuban government has shown a willingness to comply with the Vatican's conditions for making such a meeting possible.
