Vandal damages bronze door of Roman basilica

A rock-throwing vandal damaged the bronze door of the Roman basilica of St. Mary Major on December 19.
A bas-relief on the door, depicting the Annunciation, was badly damaged by the attack. Vatican officials say that repairs will cost “thousands” of euros. Roman police arrested a homeless man who was identified as the culprit.
