Vatican conferences on health care, martyrs

Catholic World News - November 22, 2011

At two separate press conferences held in Rome on November 22, Vatican officials briefed reporters on two upcoming events: a symposium on health care and the gospel of life, and a meeting of the Pontifical Academies.

The Pontifical Council for Health Care will host a 3-day conference on Health Pastoral Care, Serving Life in the Light of the Magisterium of Blessed John Paul II" opening on November 24. The event will include testimony on initiatives inspired by the teaching of the late Pontiff, and will be attended by nearly 700 health-care professionals, pastoral workers, and Catholic prelates as well as ecumenical representatives.

The November 30 meeting of the Pontifical Academies will focus on a discussion of the witness of martyrs, and will include a lecture by Fabrizio Bisconti, the archaeological superintendent of the catacombs. The highlight of the meeting will be the presentation of the Pontifical Academy Prize to distinguished young artists and researchers.
