Texas: bishop acknowledges, laments sterilizations were done at Catholic hospitals

November 24, 2008

Bishop Alvaro Corrada of Tyler, Texas has acknowledged the accuracy of reports that Catholic hospitals in that state were allowing doctors to perform tubal ligations, rendering women sterile. He promised that new policies would "bring an end to immoral practices" and ensure closer oversight at the hospitals.
