Stolen San Francisco cathedral bell recovered
CWN - October 27, 2011
The historic bell from San Francisco's Catholic cathedral, which was reported missing last Sunday, has been discovered intact near a salvage yard.
Responding to a telephone tip, police found the 5,300-pound bell sitting on railroad ties, underneath tarps. The bell will be restored to the archdiocese and stored more securely.
Church officials had feared that the bell would be melted down so that the thieves could sell the copper.
