7 cardinals petition for St. Faustina to be named doctor of the Church

Seven cardinals have signed a petition asking Pope Benedict to consider naming St. Faustina Kowalska a doctor of the Church. The petition was circulated at a five-day international conference on the Divine Mercy that began in Krakow on October 1.

The seven prelates are Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Kraków, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski (the retired Archbishop of Kraków), Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko (president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity), Cardinal Audrys Backis of Vilnius, Cardinal Philippe Barbarin of Lyon, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn of Vienna, and Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun (the retired Bishop of Hong Kong).

    This seems a little premature. Let's allow some more time to elapse before deciding how essential her teaching actually is to the life of the church.
