Priest slain in Colombia

September 05, 2011

Father Jose Reinel Restrepo Idárraga, a 36-year-old parish priest, was murdered on September 1 in Marmato, a gold-mining town in western Colombia. He was shot twice in the chest while riding a motorcycle.

A town official said that Father Restrepo was “a noble person … very responsible,” according to a Colombian press report, while a parishioner recalled that the late priest was “very reserved, simple, preached very well, was very humanitarian and very formal with the people.”
