Turkish government to return properties taken from Orthodox, other religious minorities
CWN - August 29, 2011
Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayip Erdogan has announced plans to return thousands that were seized by the government from religious ownership.
The surprise announcement from Erdogan will result in the return of roughly 1,000 properties that were taken from the Orthodox churches in the 1930s. Armenian and Jewish groups will also recover properties under the new policy, which was announced as Erdogan prepared for an iftar meal with Islamic leaders.
