Images of torture on Bishop Lahey’s computer

August 05, 2011

Bishop Raymond Lahey’s laptop computer, confiscated by police at Ottawa International Airport in 2009, contained an extensive collection child pornography, prosecutors said during an August 4 sentencing hearing.

The prelate, who resigned that same year, pled guilty to child pornography charges in May.

Describing the collection as one of the worst he has ever seen, Detective Andrew Thompson said that most of the 588 pornographic images were of young male adolescents, some involving torture and sadism.

I have difficulty imagining the double life this man led, the cleavage in his mind between the Shepherd of Christ's flock and the ephebophilic sadist. I would think such a man would simply explode from the constant tension of sustaining these utterly contradictory roles.

What a beautiful diocese, and what an ugly story. If you want to know why the poor are suffering so much, it is because the rest of us refuse to offer penance for such sins.
