Colombia: teens desecrate Blessed Sacrament

June 14, 2011

Two teenagers broke into a chapel in the Diocese of Pereira on the evening of June 5-6, stealing $1,000 worth of valuables and desecrating the Blessed Sacrament. The incident took place in Dosquebradas, a city of 200,000 in the western part of the nation.

In what Father Rodrigo Hurtado Gil, the parish priest, called an “evidently Satanic act,” a teenage boy and girl removed the Holy Eucharist from the tabernacle before pouring beer on, and stomping repeatedly on, the Blessed Sacrament. Beer was also drunk from a chalice. An orgy then took place.

Police estimated the age of the boy at 13-14 and the age of the girl at 15-16. The two remain at large.

15 to 20 days of reparation have been scheduled, according to Father Hurtado.
