‘Sincere repentance’ necessary to renew Church in Ireland, says cardinal
CWN - June 08, 2011
Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor, who conducted the apostolic visitation of the Archdiocese of Armagh in Ireland, says that “sincere repentance” and transparency are necessary for the renewal and reform of the Church in Ireland.
“The Church in Ireland has been through a horrendous trial,” he told Vatican Radio. “It’s very hard to say there’ll be an immediate recovery. It’ll take time, and it’ll take good leadership; it’ll take the gift of the Spirit and sincere repentance.”
The cardinal called for prayers “for a country which I love very much, and for the Church in Ireland which has done so much in the past for the Church all over the world.”
