Lithuania: priest set on fire during Mass
CWN - May 23, 2011
A 42-year-old man sprayed a Lithuanian priest with a flammable liquid during Mass and then lit a cigarette lighter. The attack took place in Jonava, a city of 35,000.
Father Remigijus Kuprys, 46, was hospitalized with facial burns.
“We have reports that [the attacker] had repeatedly disrupted Masses and shouted weird statements,” said a local police officer. “Investigators are deciding on psychiatric tests.”
78% of the nation’s 3.5 million residents are Catholic, according to Vatican statistics.
