Pope foresees blending of 'extraordinary form' into 'ordinary' liturgy, Vatican official says

The Instruction issued this week, underlining Pope Benedict’s desire for wider use of the “extraordinary form” of the Mass, is part of the Pontiff’s overall plan for a liturgical “reform of the reform,” according to one top Vatican official.
Cardinal Kurt Koch, the new president of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, said that the Pope hopes for the eventual development of a newly reformed liturgy, combining elements of both the traditional Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo liturgy.
Cardinal Koch said that Summorum Pontificum, with its call for expanded use of the traditional liturgy, is “only the beginning” of the Pope’s overall scheme for liturgical reform. The cardinal made his remarks at a Roman conference on Summorum Pontificum; his address was reprinted in the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano.

There is no book entitled "Novus Ordo," but there is an Ordo that is more recent than the previous one, speaking tautologically; it is informally the "Novus Ordo." We have a hint here of a forthcoming "Novior Ordo," Deo gratias.

I think the mutual enrichment is going to go more in one direction than two. It is like me and Bill Gates pooling our resources and calling it 'mutual enrichment!' Also I think that because the age has been charactized by hastiness in the development of liturgy resulting in some pastoral difficulties, there is likely to be principled resistance to making any changes to the 1962 Missal.

There is the ordinary Ordo Missae, after Paul VI, and the extraordinary Ordo Missae, after Bl. John XXIII, but there is no such liturgy in the Catholic Church as a "Novus Ordo".
