Philippines: Earth Day moved to avoid conflict with Good Friday
CWN - April 21, 2011
Earth Day is observed each year on April 22. But because that date coincides with Good Friday this year, the government of the Philippines has moved all Earth Day events to the following Monday, April 25.
"The government wants to take the opportunity to draw the attention of the Filipino people to environmental issues affecting our country and the world," said an aide to President Benigno Aquino. The government fully supports Earth Day activities, but Good Friday is a national holiday in the Philippines.
