Website Review: Christian Family Movement

A review based on: http://www.cfm.org

Description

The Christian Family Movement is a national network of parish/neighborhood small groups of families whose professed mission is to promote Christ-centered marriage and family life, to help individuals and their families to live the Christian faith in everyday life, and to improve society through actions of love, service, education and example.

From its inception, this lay movement considered itself avant-garde with a mission to bring the American church into the modern world. Patricia Crowley, co-founder of the movement, believed women should have the choice to use contraception. The issues of race, gender and sexuality, ecumenical relations, and the implementation of Vatican Council II were all topics of discussion in the movement, causing at one point a loss of members due to a perceived liberal agenda. The emphasis on social action found on the website indicates that things have not improved.
