Catholic Recipe: Moravian Cookies

    INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup molasses, heated
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/3 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/3 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

DIRECTIONS

Combine butter, molasses. Add sugar, spices, salt, soda. Add flour gradually; mix well. Chill 4 hours (dough does not hold together until thoroughly chilled).

Roll dough paper-thin. Cut in fancy shapes. Bake 6 minutes on greased baking sheets at 375°. Yield, approximately 4 dozen
