Catholic Recipe: Sweet-Sour Red Cabbage

    INGREDIENTS

  • 3 gallons shredded red cabbage
  • 6 apples
  • 1-1/3 cups butter, margarine or bacon fat
  • 1-1/2 cups vinegar
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons salt (or to taste)
  • 2 Tablespoons Ac'cent*
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

The most time consuming part of this dish is shredding the cabbage.

DIRECTIONS

Cook cabbage and apples in small amount of boiling water for about 10 minutes; drain. Combine remaining ingredients; heat to boiling; pour over hot cabbage and apples; simmer 5 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Makes 50 servings.
