Catholic Recipe: Ghorabie (Short Cake)

    INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • blanched almonds

Short Cakes from Syria, appropriate for the Feast of St. Barbara, December 4.

DIRECTIONS

Combine butter, flour, and sugar, working all together until the mixture can be made into small cakes. Press a blanched almond into the center of each. Bake in a slow oven (250° F.) until cakes are baked but not browned.
