Catholic Recipe: St. Mary's Mocha Surprise

    INGREDIENTS

  • 4 Tablespoons drinking chocolate (chocolate drink mix)
  • 1 Tablespoon coffee powder (instant coffee)
  • 1 1/4 cups fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup demerara (turbinado) sugar
  • 1/2 cup double (or whipping) cream
  • 1/2 cup single (half and half) cream

Coffee drinkers must try this dessert, especially recommended for an All Saints Day treat.

DIRECTIONS

Mix together the breadcrumbs, coffee and drinking chocolate. Whip both creams together until they form soft peaks. Layer the crumb mixture with the cream, finishing with a layer of cream.

Allow to stand for at least 8 hours. Decorate with a crushed chocolate flake or chocolate curls made with chocolate (semi-sweet baking chocolate) scraped off with a potato peeler.
