Catholic Recipe: Jesse Tree Cookies

    INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup oats

These cookies would make a wonderful dessert on Sundays during Advent.

DIRECTIONS

Blend butter, sugar, egg, extract, salt. Add flour, mix thoroughly. Stir in oats. Chill dough. Roll out to 1/8 thickness. Cut, bake at 350 degrees, 8 to 10 minutes. Unless by the time you read this, some enterprising firm has already put out a line of Jesse Tree cutters, you will have to make your own out of cardboard or tin or freehand knife.
