Catholic Prayer: Litany of Saint Padrig of Eire

Description:

This venerably old litany was written by and for people who did not have to be instructed in the acta and miracles of their national Patron; the petitions and invocations might almost be applied to any canonized Bishop. The latter half of the litany might lead one to suppose that this was intended as a general litany for the people, and not specifically and exclusively to honor St. Padrig.

Prayer:

Lord, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, hear us. Christ, graciously hear us.

God the Father of Heaven, Have mercy on us. God the Son, Redeemer of the world, Have mercy on us. God the Holy Ghost, the Sanctifier, Have mercy on us. Holy Trinity, one God, Have mercy on us.

V. Pray for us, O glorious Saint Padrig: R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. O God, Who didst vouchsafe to send blessed Padrig, Thy Confessor and Bishop, to preach Thy glory to the pagans: grant that, through his merits and intercession, we may be enabled to accomplish by Thy mercy, what Thou commandest us to do. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. R. Amen.
