Catholic Prayer: Litany of Saint Augustine of Kent

Description:

This litany is from St. Benedict's Manual (1875); its origin and authorship not now known but evidently written by English Benedictines since one petition speaks of "preaching the Gospel to our forefathers" and another calls St. Augustine "our Patron Saint" which he may well be for O.S.B. in England but not elsewhere.

That God may humble the enemies of the Catholic Faith, Make intercession for us. That all heresies may be extinguished, Make intercession for us. That the spirit of infidelity may be checked, Make intercession for us. That all prodigal children may return to the true Church of Christ, Help us by thy intercession. That our faith may never cease, Help us by thy intercession. That our hope may continually increase, Help us by thy intercession. That we may perpetually love God with a sincere heart, Help us by thy intercession. That the English nation may return to the Catholic Faith, which thou hast preached to their forefathers, Help us by thy intercession. O God Who, in the conversion of the Gentiles, hast mercifully granted the pious prayers of Saint Augustine, Confessor and Bishop: vouchsafe to grant through his merits and intercession, that we, bewailing our sins, may be consoled by the gift of Thy graces through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
