WHEAT AND GRAPES
An emblem of the Eucharist. With the wheat is often represented the Host, of which it is the ingredient, as well as the Chalice of Christ's Blood, to which the substance of the wine from the grapes has been changed. Artistic ingenuity joined with liturgical accuracy finds this symbol used in many forms in ecclesiastical art, going back to early Christian times.
