Used in the liturgy in various ways. It is blessed and put into ordinary holy water and Gregorian water (of consecration). Until the revision of the ceremonies for baptism (1969), a small quantity of salt was placed on the tongue of the person to be baptized, with the words, "Receive the salt of wisdom; may it be for you a propitiation into eternal life."
