PREFECTURE OF THE PONTIFICAL HOUSEHOLD
Established by Pope Paul VI in 1967 and given the present name in 1968. It combines the former functions of the Sacred Congregation of Ceremonial and the two offices of Majordomo and Maestro di Camera. Under the direction its prefect, it watches over the discipline of the papal household, organizes solemn audiences for eminent personages, other private, special, and general audiences, and ceremonies that are not strictly liturgical, the spiritual exercises for the Pope, cardinals, and papal prelates.
