MORISCOS
Spanish Moslems and their descendants, allowed to remain in Spain under pretense of conversion to Christianity. Hostile to their conquerors, they revolted under Philip II and, after defeat (1567-70), were first transplanted to the interior and finally expelled from Spain in 1609 by Philip III. (Etym. Spanish moro, Moor.)
