MEASURE
By analogy with a standard of calculating quantity, and criterion of judgment, evaluation, or comparison. Used by Christ to describe God's mercy toward us being measured by our mercy toward others. It is the basis of merit, where one's co-operation with grace determines one's supernatural reward. Used to describe a proportion, degree, or limit, e.g., "Equality is the measure of justice."
