LYDIA
A woman in the purple-dye business in Philippi, and a native of Thyatira in Asia. She was deeply moved by Paul's preaching and she and her household were all baptized. Her gratitude impelled her to invite Paul and his fellow-travelers to stay in her home and enjoy her hospitality. Evidently she was a persuasive woman' Luke comments that "she would take no refusal" (Acts 16:14-15).
