HOLY PLACES
The places in Palestine to which the faithful make pilgrimages because of their traditional association with the persons and events recorded in the Bible. Among Jews the Holy City of Jerusalem was the object of pilgrimage centuries before Christ. Among Christians the principal places of interest since the fourth century were the sites mentioned in the Gospels, especially the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
