GROTTAFERRATA

Basilian monastery, about three miles from Frascati, Italy, founded in 1004 by St. Nilus, a Calabrian Greek. Long a center of Greek ritual and learning, it became a national monument in 1874. Since then extensive catacombs belonging to the monastery have been discovered; they had been untouched since the early days of Christianity.
