GREMIAL
The apron laid on a bishop's lap during liturgical ceremonies. The one made of silk and trimmed with embroidery, of the color of the day, for a pontifical Mass, has been abolished. A linen or other gremial may be used when really needed. (Etym. Latin gremium, the lap, bosom.)
