GREGORIAN CHANT

The forms of musical worship, as revised and established by Pope Gregory I. It is without definite rhythm and was probably accumulated from Jewish sources. It is accepted as the oldest chant in present day use. Its revised present form is due largely to the energy and inspiration of the monks at the Benedictine Abbey at Solesmes in northwestern France.
