GERASENES
The inhabitants of a Decapolis city "which is opposite Galilee," according to Luke (Luke 8:26-33). Little is known about its location or history. Several of the Evangelists told the story of Jesus driving the demon out of the man "in the country of the Gerasenes" (Matthew 8:28-34; Mark 5:1-13). The word is sometimes spelled Gergesenes or Gadarenes.
