FRENCH REVOLUTION
The political and religious upheaval that began in France in 1789 and has influenced the whole world. Among the significant aspects that affected the Catholic Church were the oaths of allegiance to civil authority that implied denial of the faith. There were may martyrs, along with a massive dissolution of religious orders and secularization of Church property.
