ELOHIM
the Hebrew word most frequently used for God. It appears several thousand times in the Old Testament. It was also used in a plural sense to designate heathen gods (Genesis 35:2, Exodus 18:11). When Jesus was heard to say on the Cross "Eli, Eli, lama sabachtani," he was using a modified form of Elohim (Matthew 27:46).
