CAPERNAUM

A town in Galilee somewhere along the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Its precise location cannot be determined, though it has been identified with Tell-Hum on the north bank of the Shore of Tiberias. During Jesus' ministry in Galilee, Capernaum was the scene of many miracles and some his most stirring sermons. It was here that the Centurion's servant (Matthew 8:5-13), a paralytic (Mark 2:1-12), and a court official's son were all cured (John 4:46-54). It was here also that the five thousand were fed following his sermon (Mark 6:33-44).
